Sunday's family festival features giant cake

What better way to celebrate a birthday than with cake, fun and games?
The 150! Family Festival promises all that Sunday in downtown Omaha.
The birthday cake - a marble sheet cake that will be
approximately 30 by 45 feet - will be cut at 1 p.m. Sunday at Qwest
Center Omaha.
Stop by for a slice and hear the "Happy Birthday Song" performed by
Opera Omaha before catching a retro bus or trolley to other downtown
events.
You can choose from several activities from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The
museums are offering free admission for the afternoon:
20th Street Kids Escape - Children can drive trains, play games,
draw still-lifes or take part in group art activities, on the block
between Farnam and Harney Streets. Sponsors: The Rose Theater, YMCA,
Omaha Children's Museum and Very Special Arts Nebraska.
Joslyn Art Museum - The museum at 2200 Dodge St. will have
children's activities and a 2:30 p.m. performance by Opera Omaha.
Omaha Building/Kutak Rock - Open house at the law firm, 1650
Farnam St., with exhibits featuring former inhabitants and
organizations with ties to the building, such as Omaha National Bank
and Boys Town. Two documentaries will be shown, "Westward the Empire"
at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., and "If These Walls Could Speak" at 2 p.m.
World-Herald Freedom Center - Self-guided tours of the press
facility, at 14th Street and Capitol Avenue. Refreshments for the first
500 guests.
Lauritzen Gardens - The gardens at 100 Bancroft St. will offer
such old-fashioned games as sack races and walnut-shell boat races,
crafts such as flower jewelry and plant printing, or dyeing fabric with
natural flower dyes.
Durham Western Heritage Museum - The museum, at 801 S. 10th St.,
has several Omaha-oriented exhibits, including restored train cars and
a covered wagon. Opera Omaha will perform at 4 p.m.
W. Dale Clark Public Library - Historian Howard Hamilton will
present "Believe It or Not," tales about the city's history, at 1:30
p.m. at the library, 215 S. 15th St. At 3 p.m., learn about Nebraska
during the Civil War. Plus memorabilia exhibit and hands-on historic
map-making.
Gen. Crook House, Historic Fort Omaha - Garden walk, needlework
exhibit at the fort near 30th and Fort Streets.
