Douglas plans theater at 168th, West Dodge

Douglas Theatre Co. of Omaha will build a 16-screen movie theater at
Village Pointe, a 650,000-square-foot outdoor mall under construction
at 168th Street and West Dodge Road.
Village Pointe Cinema plans to be open in time for the mall's grand
opening in mid-May 2004.
Dallas-based Rave Review Cinemas had talked earlier with the mall
developer, RED Development of Kansas City, Mo. and Scottsdale, Ariz.,
about building on the site.
In May, the developer filed a $3.5 million lawsuit against the theater
company, claiming it breached its arrangement to build and lease a
theater at Village Pointe.
Douglas Theatre plans to build a 73,500-square-foot theater with
computerized ticketing and concession sales, stadium seating and
wall-to-wall screens.
Developer Mike Ebert said it was important to have a theater as part of
the mall. "RED's centers bring a mix of shopping, dining and
entertainment to a community," he said.
Village Pointe will be Douglas Theatre's fifth movie complex in Omaha.
This fall, Douglas will begin construction of a megaplex in downtown
Lincoln, called The Grand Theatre, that is due to open in 2004.
Douglas Theatre, with 101 screens, is the 38th-largest theater operator
in the country.
"We are extremely happy to be working with RED Development again," said
David Livingston, president for Douglas Theatre.
The company also operates a complex at Lincoln's SouthPointe Pavilions,
which is owned by RED Development.
Among the tenants announced for Village Pointe are Scheels All Sports,
Bed Bath & Beyond, Cost Plus World Market, Wild Oats Natural
Marketplace, Cold Stone Creamery and Cheeseburger in Paradise.
