In the beginning was the Word….

From the beginning of creation, the Word has been central to understanding God and each other.  At Holy Name Catholic Grade School, we rely on the fundamentals; reading, writing and arithmetic, augmented and brought to fullness by the Word of God. Through Scripture, catechism, and service, our students discover the light of Christ, revealed through the words of teachers, students, family and friends.

And the Word was made Flesh…

The primary task of our teachers is to lead students to understand and discover the Love of God through the experience of His creation. Jesus came to all mankind to put ‘flesh on the bones’ of our faith.  In the true tradition of Catholic Education, Holy Name teachers and students strive daily to continue that mission. By seeking to understand our world, we come to know the love of God.  By seeking to know God, we come to understand the glory of his creation.

Tradition is where we have come from, who we are, and who we strive to be.

Holy Name TraditionHappy FamilyText Box: Holy Name Parish was founded in 1917 by the Redemptorist Fathers and Brothers, in cooperation with the servants of Mary. At the time, “ Father McKeon was told to take up the great missionary endeavor of his life– the establishment of a new Redemptorist Parish in Omaha.” (Silver Jubilee Commemorative booklet, page 9.) Enduring the hardships of the open plains, the first Pastor of Holy Name said Mass in an auto repair shop and opened a school on the lower level of the house where the Servants of Mary lived.
While the Holy Name Community has grown greatly in the last 90 years, one thing has not changed. We are dedicated to being a missionary parish, meeting all of the basic needs of those God sends to us for our care.
Many of the 3rd and 4th generations of our founding families still retain strong ties to our church, school, housing association, Men’s Club, Humble Jumble Shop, Legion of Mary, or any of the other organizations that have flourished on our campus.
Do you recognize the family names of our first students from 1918?
Bell, Brennan, Burkhard, Couch, Edney, Nance, Schaben, Verret, Gibson, Grady, Healy, Keplinger, Wacek, Emig, Hegarty, Gard, Reidy and Robbins.
The Holy Name Community has influenced the life of Omaha for almost a century. We continue to grow in love and service, as an anchor for the community, and a home for generations of residents and immigrants alike.
