K-2- The Kindergarteners through second graders have been working very hard this first quarter.  They will start playing even more complex games as the days.  All the activities have been based on improving their overall body coordination as well as their overall health.  They are about to start their “balloon” unit in which they will be learning the parts of the bodies, movements will different parts, relay races with the balloons, and we will be adding music with their movements as well.

3-4-The 3rd and 4th graders have been learning how to be part of a team.  We will continue this will small non sport related activities  where the students learn the importance of working well together, setting/accomplishing goals, and working on their individual health as well.  The students will improve on all of these important aspects  before the students play team sports together.

5-6- The 5th and 6th graders will start learning the basics of volleyball and basketball this up coming month.  Along with that they will continue to improve their overall cardiovascular health as well a their overall coordination.

7-8-The 7th and 8th graders are going to start their basketball unit in the up coming weeks.  They will also participate in conditioning activities that will improve their overall health and well being.

Please let me know if anyone has any questions.

Physical Education classes at Holy Name focus on developing healthy lifestyles and a joy for movement.  The students participate in organized sports to prepare them for interactions outside of school.  The students learn the rules are not just for keeping score, but also for keeping them safe.  Class time is also spent discovering their muscles and physical needs.  Regular exercises will help them build strong bodies and confidence in themselves.  There is no shortage of fun in classes either!  We take time to laugh and learn good sportsmanship in the process.

Community service is a big part of Holy Name School.  Physical Education classes participate in Jump Rope for Heart every year...earning money for  the American Heart Association .
