World Languages
Following
the new requirement for Foreign Language education in Elementary Schools*,
Holy Name expanded our Spanish curriculum to World Languages during the
school
year 06-07. Highlights of this exciting program are:
 | All classes and will be exposed to international themes during regular
classes through
integration in current curricular areas. |
 | K-3 will experience World Language once a month in technology. |
 | 4-8 will experience World Language classes once a week in technology. |
 | Speakers will present to classes throughout the year from a variety of
different
cultural
and language backgrounds. |
 | Art, Music, Library and Physical Education will include an
international component. |
 | Languages for year 06-07 were Spanish, Japanese and
Hebrew. |
 | Languages for year 07-08 were Spanish, French and
a unit on language
adapted to
special needs (Braille, sign language.) |
 | Languages for year 08-09 are Spanish, Hindi and Italian. |

State Board of Education and under review by the Attorney General:

Languages. By the 2007-08 school year, the curriculum includes introductory
experiences in world languages. This may include integrating international
themes in other subject areas; the use of school, community, and international
resources; and/or specific instruction in other languages.
