The Holy Name writing
classes are once again up and operational! Our "Authors in Training" have
started the year with a variety of seasonal prompts. From the second
graders writing about bats (facts and opinions) to the sixth graders discussing
the upcoming election and role of the President in our government, we are
covering the spectrum of fall themes! Below is a listing of current
projects.
Grade 1: The
first graders are discussing the writing trait of "voice". We are using
our voices to illustrate the poem "The Five Little Pumpkins".
Grade 2:
The second graders are completing a unit on "The Reasons We Write."Students will
learn how to write in various formats such as phone messages, lists, thank
you notes, party invitations, and postcards.
Grade 3:
Third graders are immersed in information about bats! We are using our new
found knowledge of these mammals to differentiate between fact and opinion.
Grade 4:
Since boys are the majority in this class, we have started the year off with a
football theme. We will use this theme to practice the skills of
summarization, sequencing, and narrative writing.
Grades 5 and
6: The election is coming and these students are up on current events!
Fifth and sixth graders are using the election theme to summarize information,
as well as to draft short essays on fictitious presidential candidates.
