CBS COLOR INFORMATION AND TECHNICAL DATA

Color Line

I have just retrieved from my dark and deep storage a very rare document that Steve McVoy can use to complete his restoration of the CBS Color Converter Wheel (shown at the Spring Early Television Convention, for pictures go to Steve McVoy's Web site at CBS Color Converter ).

I am going to make a ONE-TIME ONLY printing of the document for Steve and John Folsom and for anyone else who requests it.

The document is formally entitled: "CBS COLOR INFORMATION AND TECHNICAL DATA COVERING BASIC FEATURES, ADAPTION, AND CONVERSION OF TELEVISION RECEIVERS".  It was received from CBS in 1950 and preserved by departed friend, Marshall Bosches.

The "Blue Book" document is 71 pages of detailed A and B-size CBS Labs Information.and Engineering Drawings.  It starts with 14 pages of Peter Goldmark's description of the system to the FCC including his description of image artifacts.  There are some 45 Engineering drawings (down to oil quills) and other painfully detailed and boring detail.  Steve can construct the support movable assembly for his wheel from these drawings, and in can in-fact manufacture the converters if he wants to go into production (ha).

Below is an Excel file I put together listing all the contents and a picture of Peter Goldmark with the Adapter and the Converter Wheel.

I have also scanned and converted to PDF major drawings of the adapter schematic (B size), color wheel assembly, and converter schematic for wheel control (oddly this is hand-drawn on a CBS vellum).  I will send a copy of this 3-MB file to whoever requests it (I did not want to send it with this general transmittal to those who might only have dial-up).

Kinkos will produce the document with its single color page (showing the field color sequence), with heavy card stock cover and spiral binding.  The price will be $39 plus Priority mailing of $3.85.  Please send payment to PayPal at ereitan@novia.net, or send your check.

I will start printing in one week, so let me know by next Monday, August 29, 2005 if you want a copy and I will start that single printing - I only want to take it apart once.

Please let me know if you want me to forward that PDF scan of excerpts to you immediately, and let me know if you want a paper copy of the entire document!

Thanks,

Ed Reitan
