We did it. Look for K1AIR, AF51 from Otis AFB during the QSO Party! All I need
to do now is raise a crew for setup, operating and tear down. If we get
clearance from the base commander to put our portable 50' tower and TH5 up,
we'll be operating from a building right off the runway! It's currently used
by the CAP wing on the base as a meeting place. We got the rules clarified and
we do qualify for a multiplier of 51 and the extra 100 pts for operation from
within the boundaries of an Air Force Base. If we can raise enough operators
we'll be running SSB, CW, and hopefully RTTY if I can get the TNC and an extra
computer together in time, on 80 through 10m.

We talked to the base commander briefly today and he pointed us at one of the
base PR people. We've peaked their interest and we're now going to try and con
them into generating a special certificate commemorating the return of K1AIR
to Otis after an absence of 30 years! Too bad "AIR" calls don't have an extra
bonus attached to them. We should try to push that one through the contest
people next year!

I'm also going to do a press a release and see if we can't get the local Cape
papers and maybe the Boston Globe and Herald to pick it up. I think we can
also get coverage from the local community TV station.

By the way Roger - the old K1AIR QTH is now a very weedy field, most of the
roads shown on your map are now gone - plowed under. Your barracks is also no
more. Sorry about that.
